Country Music Stars Auction Their Instruments To Benefit COVID-19 Relief

Have you every dreamed of owning a piece of country music history? What about playing a guitar that has performed on stages worldwide or could be seen in popular movies? A new auction is giving fans a chance to buy their favorite artists' instruments while benefiting a great cause.

The auction runs until October 29 and benefits the Academy of Country Music's Lifting Lives COVID-19 Response Fund, which was created to support those working behind the scenes who were out of a job because of the ongoing pandemic's effect on live music.

"When the pandemic hit in the spring, Nashville was hit pretty hard," said Nancy Valentino from Christie's business development department. She continued, "This is one of the instances where you have the artists helping the people who work with them — tour bus drivers, roadies, session workers, caterers — no one is working."

Valentino said when the auction was announced as a way to assist the now-unemployed workers, she was blown away by the response.

"We were so impressed by how quickly artists volunteered to donate, and donated things that are so special to them," said Valentino.

One of the items included in the auction is a signed black acoustic Gibson guitar that Taylor Swift played when she debuted "betty" at the Academy of Country Music Awards in September. If you're a fan of A Star is Born, you can also place a bid on the electric Gibson guitar Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) played in the 2018 hit.

A bedazzled dulcimer that Dolly Parton has owned for 30 years is also on the auction list, as are guitars owned by Keith Urban, Dwight Yoakam, Blake Shelton, and Vince Gill, News Channel 5 reports. The auction can be found here.
