Why is there a sticker on my mailbox and who put it there?
If you end up with a paw print sticker on your mailbox this weekend, you probably have a dog or live close to someone who does. In an effort to protect mail carriers from potential attacks, the US Post Office has partnered with the PAWS program to create awareness by placing colored stickers on mailboxes.
A yellow sticker let’s your mail carrier know that a dog lives nearby.
An orange sticker indicates the dog resides at your address.
You can see what they look like here.
Stickers, along with a note, will begin showing up as early as this Thursday.
The USPS is doing their best to keep their employees safe as well as protecting homeowners from liability. It is not mandatory. If you’d like to request that your mailbox remain without a sticker, you can call the Tennessee Consumer Affairs Office at 615-872-5642
