Nashville Couple Hopes New Show Will Empower Women To Follow Their Passions

A Nashville couple is gaining national attention after their home renovation show premiered earlier this month.

Making Modern with Brooke and Brice showcases Brooke and Brice Gilliam as they renovate and customize homes to give them a more functional and updated look, per WKRN. What sets their show apart from others like it, however, is that the stereotypical roles are reversed — Brice designs the spaces and Brooke makes them a reality.

"It's so funny because whenever someone talks about design, they talk to Brooke," said Brice. "And whenever someone talks about building, they talk to me, and we always look at each other and just laugh."

Both Gilliams have day jobs apart from home renovation, Brooke as a pharmaceutical sales representative and Brice has an orthodontist, but they began their journey when after making improvements to their home as well as their friends' homes. They eventually landed their show after a nearby producer wanted to film a pilot. That first look at Making Modern was picked up by Chip and Joanna Gaines for their recently-launched Magnolia Network.

The couple hopes their show inspires others to follow their passions regardless of perceived stereotypes.

"I am hoping we are breaking through those glass ceilings," said Brooke, "and showing people that there is a new generation of women that are very empowered and want to also pick up power tools."

Making Modern with Brooke and Brice is streaming exclusively on Discovery+ and the Magnolia Network.
