Trisha Yearwood âwanted to marryâ Elvis Presley.
The iconic country artist reflected on her longtime appreciation for Presleyâs music in a clip she shared on Instagram on Sunday (November 30). Yearwood recently released her rendition of âBlue Christmas,â which Presley released on his holiday album in 1957. Yearwood said âthe first album that I remember getting in my life was an Elvis Presley record. I had a neighbor in Monticello [Yearwoodâs hometown in Georgia] who was a lot older. She was in college, and I was a little kid. I was five years old, and she would give me her old Elvis records, so I listened to Elvis nonstop.
âI wanted to marry Elvis,â she said. âI sent him a letter when I was 5 or 6 asking him to marry me. If I make it to Heaven, the first question Iâm going to as my mom is, âdid you mail the letter?â Because I just think she probably didnât mail the letter,â she said with a laugh. âAnyway, Iâve always loved Elvis, and so, âBlue Christmasâ is just a no brainer for me. And we tried to find a little different way to do it on the record [Christmastime, Yearwoodâs new holiday album].â
Yearwood, who is married to fellow country star Garth Brooks, previously shred in a statement that âChristmas has always been one of my favorite times of year, and these songs mean so much to me. To be able to perform them with a full symphony brings the magic to another level. I canât wait to share this music and celebrate the season with fans on tour.â
