It's something you fear will happen, as you watch these performers flying through the air, but always expect that safe landing. Still, you hold your breath until they're safely on the ground or reach their landing pad.
Unfortunately, this was not the case for an aerialist with Cirque du Soleil, who passed away after falling during a performance in Tampa, Florida. The performer, Yann Arnaud, had been with the company for 15 years. This footage was captured this Friday night. His accident occurred during Saturday's performance.
The company's president and CEO Daniel Lamarre said, "The entire Cirque du Soleil family is in shock and devastated by this tragedy." According to a statement, "Yann was transported to the nearest hospital ... he later passed away from his injuries."
Cirque du Soleil canceled two of its Volta shows Sunday in Tampa. The show, according to its website, "weaves acrobatics" and "action sports" into a "melodic score."
Yann Arnaud was married with a beautiful family. Please keep them in your thoughts.
