Our hearts are with the Smyrna community as they mourn the loss of a beloved teacher. Shannon Williams taught drama at Smyrna High School for 21 years before being diagnosed with a brain tumor in April. Unfortunately, she lost the battle this week.
Very rarely do you come across a teacher like this. Comments on social media are heartbreaking and beautiful. Former students refer to her as someone who was "always there for you," and "treated you like her own kid." Friends and co-workers mention how Williams was a "rock for many" and "radiated positivity."
While you might not have had the distinct honor of knowing Shannon Williams personally, we can all learn a lesson on how to live life from this extraordinary teacher.
A petition is circulating with 1500 signatures in support of renaming the High School Auditorium in her honor. Feel free to share.
