Going somewhere? Look at your ID. If there's no gold star, you won't get far!
The "REAL ID" act was established in the wake of 9/11 as one more step toward eliminating the threat of airline terrorism. Although the federal law was passed in 2005, it hasn't fully gone into effect.
As of October 1, 2020, all state issued identification must have a gold star in order to access federal facilities including airports. TSA will not allow travelers past security without it - domestically OR internationally.
Every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of ID to fly within the United States.
The state of Tennessee will begin issuing REAL ID as early as July 1st. You must PHYSICALLY go to your local DMV or Motor-Vehicles office with the appropriate documents. They will NOT automatically send your REAL ID.
