Petition for Dolly Parton To Replace Confederate Statues in Tennessee

Would you consider Dolly Parton a true Tennessee hero?

The conversation about statues of Dolly Parton replacing those of confederate leaders has been floating around since the tail end of 2019. Back in December, Tennessee state senator Jeremy Faison suggested replacing a statue of Ku Klux Klan grand wizard Nathan Bedford Forrest with one of Dolly and now there's an official petition to have her in place of them all. In case you're wondering what that could look like....

The petition urging the removal of the Forrest statue as well as others, reads “History should not be forgotten, but we need not glamorize those who do not deserve our praise. Instead, let us honor a true Tennessee hero, Dolly Parton.” The petition goes on to detail the incredibly good work Dolly has done, with her Imagination Library and more, noting, “Let’s replace the statues of men who sought to tear this country apart with a monument to the woman who has worked her entire life to bring us closer together.”
