Remember back when you turned 18? You're finally an adult and can do and buy things you couldn't as a minor.
Charlie Lagarde of Quebec was celebrating the big 1-8 by buying some champagne (different drinking ages from here vs Quebec) and threw in a scratch-off lotto ticket for fun.
Charlie scratched her ticket and the birthday lady won the GRAND PRIZE!
Charlie had a choice to make, she could take a lump sum of $1 million dollars, or get $1,000 every week for the rest of her life. Did we mention the prize is also tax-free?
We would have been blinded by the thought of getting $1 million at once and take that, but Charlie made the smarter choice. She spoke with financial advisors and went with getting $1k a week. She's only 18 so that would pay out more, plus family and friends aren't going to harass too much over one thousand vs one million dollars.
