Carrie Underwood said it “took a while,” to discover her path to health and fitness.

Underwood said she’s “always been interested in” paving a path to a healthy lifestyle, and that interest strengthened as she got older — including teen years and 20s — as she began cooking for herself and discovering more about nutrition. The Denim & Rhinestones singer-songwriter, 40, added that her health is even more a priority now that she’s a wife and mother. She and husband Mike Fisher share two young sons, Isaiah, turning 9 next month, and Jacob, turning 5 this month.

“It took a while to find my right path to fitness and health, but it’s something I’ve always been interested in, and the older I got, you start cooking for yourself (in your teens) and 20s and all that stuff,” Underwood said, per her record label. “You kind of start looking at the fine print and you start learning about nutrition, if that’s what you want to do, and that’s what I wanted to do and started feeling better and started feeling better about myself. Now that I’m a mom and a wife and all that, it’s very important to be a good example for my children and teach them healthy eating habits and healthy habits for their bodies, because I want them to live a healthy, wonderful, happy lives as long as they possibly can, and I on the flip side want to be around for them.”

Underwood published a lifestyle book in 2020, Find Your Path: Honor Your Body, Fuel Your Soul, and Get Strong with the Fit 52 Life. She also launched the fit52 health and fitness app, offering healthy recipes and full body workouts that app users can complete at home. Underwood recently shared a “spicy,” Vegas-inspired mini workout that includes V-up crunches, explosive tuck jumps, goblet squats, ankle biters and side shuffles, with examples of how to approach each exercise.
