Tish Cyrus said it was “tough on everyone” when she split from Billy Ray Cyrus after nearly three decades of marriage.

Tish and daughter Brandi Cyrus appeared on the latest episode of Sibling Revelry with Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson. During their conversation on the podcast, Tish, 57, who has since remarried actor Dominic Purcell, opened up about her divorce from the country star in 2022. She said that she “never wanted to be divorced. …I wanted to make it work, probably for a little too long, like, for my own mental health. There became a point that, like, I didn’t have a choice.”

Tish and Billy Ray, 63, got married in 1993. The “Achy Breaky Heart” artist, who has since married and divorced singer-songwriter FIREROSE, adopted Brandi and Trace Cyrus, Tish’s two children from her previous marriage. The former couple share son Braison Cyrus and daughters Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus. Billy Ray is also father to son Christopher Cody from a previous relationship. Brandi said during the conversation on Sibling Revelry with Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson that her parents, who had filed for divorce years earlier, stayed together while the kids were young. Though the split “was not great” now, she said “we’re all old enough to understand it. We’re able to zoom out and see it for what it was.”
