Bailey Zimmerman took a tumble and suffered a gnarly head injury in āthe craziest music video Iāve ever done.ā
Zimmerman, 25, is introduced to the rodeo crowd as the āhometown heroā of Nashville, Tennessee. The country star takes off on a bucking bull, and when he falls to the ground, the audience ā including a woman in a red dress ā stands and waits with bated breath to determine whether heās OK.
The cinematic music video, directed by Zimmerman and Jerry Morka, cuts to a scene that shows Zimmerman reuniting with his friends at a bar and dance hall after the rodeo. He said he had a āslight headache, but the only thing that Iāve got on my mind is that girl.ā The friends walk inside together approach the bartender ā played by DJ and music producer Diplo ā who points out that heās seen Zimmerman ātake a bunch of hard falls before, but you aways get up, and youāre never this quiet. Whatās going on?ā The country starās friend points out that Zimmerman is āquietā because heās thinking about the girl in the red dress, and just as the group begins talking about her, she arrives at the venue.
Zimmerman introduces himself to the mystery girl, who lets him know that heāll āhave to work a little harder than thatā to win her over. Diplo points out that Zimmerman is ānot just a cowboy. (He) can sing, too,ā and the girl asks him to āprove it. ā¦By the way youāre smiling, I can tell you want to impress me. So, impress me, cowboy.ā
Thatās when Zimmerman performed āCominā In Cold,ā the single he released on Friday (June 6) as he announced his new studio album, Different Night Same Rodeo. The 18-track record will also include previously-released songs āHoly Smokes,ā āBackup Planā with Luke Combs (a ādream come true,ā Zimmerman said), āNew To Country,ā āHell or High Waterā (which appeared on the star-studded Twisters soundtrack), and āHolding On.ā
āThereās something about this new song, āComin in Cold,ā that just feels like something that I havenāt done before because itās not really about heartbreak. Itās more about this girl that (I) should not be chasing,ā Zimmerman said earlier this week in a press conference hosted at Raising Caneās Nashville Flagship. āThe last two years of my life, I have just chased red flags constantly. Every girl I like, it comes out like, āoh, you have a boyfriend and youāve been cheating on your boyfriend with me.ā ā¦Massive red flag. Iām just so addicted to them. So, thatās what this song is really aboutā¦sheās everything I want, but nothing that I need. I donātā need that, but man, I want it. Itās kind of like a beer on a Saturday night. You donāt really need it, but you want it, you know?
āāCominā in Coldā is a little different because itās not like, āF you, you broke my heart,āĀ or, you know, like āoh, Iām sad, Iām heartbroken,āā he explained. āItās more like, Iāve been trying to get un-heartbroken and I seem to be finding more people that just keep ā like gosh dang, dude, can I not just find a freakinā girl thatās like, loves God, (is) a good person, treats people right, you know? Itās always something, you know? I think āCominā in Coldā just talks about more how my life has been the last couple years than the heartbreak I went through as a teenager and that stuff. So, yeah, itās kind of like more mature, I guess, if you would. Not really, because Iām still chasing girls in bars, but what are you gonna do?ā
