Jason Aldean revealed he almost passed on “Big Green Tractor,” a single that became the country megastar’s longest-running No. 1 hit.
Now with 31 No. 1s spanning his career, Aldean credited producer Michael Knox with encouraging him to record “Big Green Tractor.” Jim Collins and David Lee Murphy wrote the song. It was one of 12 tracks that appeared on Aldean’s 2009 record, Wide Open. That album also included “Crazy Town,” “She’s Country,” “The Truth” and more.
“That was one that Michael Knox was really — my producer — really fired up about that song,” Aldean shared. “And, you know, it was just a little, it’s kinda like 1994 to me. It’s a little bit of a tongue-in-cheek lyric, which I don’t typically do those kind of things, and that was one that he had to kinda talk me into it a little bit. and to this day, it’s the longest-running No. 1 hat we had which was a four-week No. 1, and that was one that almost didn’t happen.”
Most recently, Aldean released Songs About Us, a 20-track studio record that includes “Don’t Tell On Me,” “How Far Does A Goodby Go” and more, plus duets with his wife, Brittany Aldean, David Lee Murphy and Luke Bryan. Aldean said in a statement when he first announced album details, “it means the world when one of my songs helps someone through a hard time—or celebrates their best moments. This album is about all of that—the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Every track started with a real story or feeling, and together we turned those experiences into music. In the end, I realized this album is about all of us. These are songs about us.”
