Chris Lane Shares Prank Rascal Flatts Made On Him During Tour

Chris Lane stopped by The Bobby Bones Show to talk about his family life, new music, the prank Rascal Flatts did on him during tour and more!

Lane is a father of two and says life is good. His oldest son, Dutton, is three and Baker is two. Dutton is now in school, and they just had their first parent teacher conference, and they were told that he is a silent leader who listens to directions well. Lane was happy to hear he’s like that at school because at home he’s not at all. He shared that his wife, Lauren and her dad are too much of a rule follower and it drives him crazy because he likes to bend them.

His new song “Find Another Bar,” is climbing the country charts. He feels like over the years everyone got to know him as the love song guy, so it was time to show a different side to him. He’s been through heartbreak in his life so he could relate to it and this song is his take on a breakup. People write millions of breakup songs, but he felt like “Find Another Bar,” was different from everything out there. His other new song, “If I Die Before You,” he loved everything about the minute he heard it, but couldn’t have it. For two years, another artist had it on hold and the first time he heard it was by accident. He knew he wanted to record it but had to wait to see if the artist who had it on hold would decide not to record the song and then give it to him. He feels like it’s going to be a career changing song for him.

Lane and his brother grew up playing football, baseball and basketball and only focused on sports. It wasn’t until he had to go back to college to complete one class to graduate that he got into music. In between downtime of playing baseball, he learned how to play guitar and became very passionate about it. During his last semester, he got good enough at guitar that he could play a few songs and started performing at an open mic on his college campus. Everyone on his team would come by and support him and people started encouraging him to pursue music. When he moved back home, he started performing more and then started a band called The Chris Lane Band. He didn’t put much thought into it because he had no idea it would lead to a record deal. Prior to getting all his meetings he had never even been to Nashville before.

Lane has an identical twin brother, and he chose to do music too after seeing his brother get into it! He bought an electronic drum set and learned how to play so they could start a band together. He was very bad for a long time and by the time Lane got a record deal, he still hadn’t improved much. By the time Lane signed a deal with Big Loud, they wanted him to hire a new drummer, but Lane did not want to let go of his brother. He ended up working really hard to get better and is now Lane’s full-time drummer!

Lane is opening for Rascal Flatts on their 2025 Life Is A Highway Tour. It’s a full circle moment for him because they toured together back in 2017 when he released his first song “Fix.” He was also supposed to be on their 20th anniversary tour that never happened because of the pandemic, so he’s excited to be on their 25th anniversary tour. He recalled stories from the first time they toured together like how he used to give Gary LeVox a random word every night and he would have to find a way to sing it in a song. The first word he gave him was “Raccoon,” and he was able to put it into a song and then continued to throw the word into the song every time. Also, while he was touring with them, they’d do interviews, and the Rascal Flatts guys made up a story that that they were so proud of him because of everything he had overcome with his meth addiction that he sings about in his song “Fix.” They went on to say he lost his teeth and as a tour gift they were going to buy him a new set. They made it super believable so when the interviewer asked Lane about it, he had no idea what they were talking about but thought it was funny. It turned into every tour stop Rascal Flatts would make up stories about him and he’d make up stories about them!
