By now, everyone has seen the Bernie Sanders meme from President Biden's inauguration.
You might find memes like these harmless fun . . . that get old fast. However, they can be more than that.
CNN reports that the meme has generated a LOT of demand for merchandise . . . and because of that, it has raised more than $1.8 MILLION for charities.
Sanders' team began selling sweatshirts and T-shirts with the photo last Thursday, and more items were added over the weekend. By Monday, pretty much everything from the first run was sold out.
All the proceeds will be distributed to several charities in Bernie's homestate of Vermont, including Meals on Wheels.
Bernie said "[We] were amazed by all the creativity shown by so many people over the last week, and we're glad we can use my internet fame to help Vermonters in need." He also added that $1.8 million is nothing compared to what the nation needs in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
