MuttNation Monday: Meet Leslie Knope

Fans of the TV Show, Parks and Recreation, please allow us to introduce you to a wonderful dog here at Nashville Humane Association (NHA) named after the main character: LESLIE KNOPE. "LK" is a 4-year-old, 60-pound, Shepherd Mix. She's big. She's smart. She's beautiful. She's loving. She's fun. She's friendly. She's also been available to adopt since there was snow on the ground in Nashville. And now it's almost July. Leslie Knope is also more than ready for her Gotcha Day to happen. Which is why we are so grateful to Miranda Lambert's MuttNation #LoveHarder campaign. The Love Harder campaign focuses on supporting shelter dogs who don't easily get adopted, which includes senior dogs, black dogs, dogs with disabilities, dogs with health conditions, and breeds that come with a stigma, like Pit Bull mixes, and even a Shepherd mix like Leslie, who is looking for that unicorn adopter out there who understands that she needs to be an only pet in her new home. She truly is the underdog MuttNation is rooting for. We are so very happy this misunderstood girl is getting this well-deserved chance to be in the spotlight today with her new BFF's at The Big 98's Wayne D Show. Thank you, Wayne and Tay, for welcoming her into your studio with open paws.

A little bit more about the sweetest pupperdog, who, once you meet and spend time with, you will fall in love with...

Leslie Knope is an energetic, friendly, fun-loving, well-behaved, and photogenic kind of dog who is filled with excitement when she's outside playing and filled with relaxing chill when inside on the couch. She certainly knows how to play and love while enjoying every moment of it. When she sees a leash, the tail starts wagging and she is ready to go. Because of her size and strength, we 100% recommend putting a harness on Leslie when taking her out on the daily walks she enjoys so much. When she is not playing, this gentle giant LOVES her people of all ages and wants to be hanging out right next to them. Ideally, she would do best in a home without other animals. She is very dog selective, and not a fan of cats. But she is AMAZING with ALL the humans she meets. All the sizes plus all the ages. This girl just needs a family who wants one dog. Trust us when we say this: Leslie flourishes in that environment! After spending time in a NHA Foster Home with a family of 4, we learned how well, patient, gentle, and loving she was with the children in the home. She adored the attention from them, and like all good Shepherds... Never took her eyes off her flock. As far as she was concerned: They were her responsibility and her love. She adored them.

She also has the best potty manners. AND LOVES GOING FOR CAR RIDES! Her vehicle of choice? A Jeep Wranger. (top off, of course!)

If you're reading this and a big loving puppers is what your fenced in backyard (or Jeep) is missing... This could totally be the dream dog you've been needing in your life! Leslie Knope is a 4-year-old Shepherd mix that is looking for a forever home BUT to give her a little break from shelter life, she is also eligible for foster, and we are currently looking for amazing foster ambassador to take her in!

More about being a NHA Foster Ambassador: Sometimes super solid dogs in shelters (like Leslie Knope) get overlooked for a variety of reasons and that’s where our Foster Ambassador program comes in and here’s how - Foster Ambassadors provide a dog with a much-needed break from the shelter (even the most adjusted dog can start to experience kennel stress) and while in foster the dog is featured on our website, social media and of course to the fosters very own network of friends! As the foster ambassador you get to facilitate meet and greets and help your foster dog meet his or her new family! It really is the coolest program and allows for us to extend our adoption program beyond our facility.

OK - Foster or Adopt - Who wants to meet Leslie Knope? Please head on over to NHA and visit her! She loves making new friends, playing tug-o-war, and fetch, plus all the love and attention. Oh. Treats. Leslie loves treats! (she wanted to make sure you all knew that treats were the way to her heart) Thank you.

Everyone enjoying this magnificent Miranda Lambert MuttNation Monday feature... please know that once you meet Leslie, you will see that no other dog will ever #LoveHarder when you realize that she is the one! She just needs to be given a change. Thank you in advance for giving that to her. NHA is open for adoptions Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
