Smartwatches are good for more than just reading texts from your wrist.
Two New Jersey hikers' lives were saved thanks to their smartwatches. While making their way through Hartshorne Woods Park in Atlantic Highlands, James Prudenciano and Paige Prusso slipped off the trail and down onto a cliff. Danging off the side, the paired dropped down into the Navesink River.
The fall triggered their Apple Watches to call 911. Rescue workers were able to find the hikers within 15 minutes, tracking the GPS coordinates from the devices. Prudenciano suffered a broken heel and hand, plus some cracks in his back.
