Luke Combs teamed up with singer-songwriter Jon Bellion on his heartfelt ballad that he wrote 48 hours before his firstborn son’s arrival.

The two artists have teased “WHY” on their social media accounts throughout the week. They finally confirmed details — including the release date — on Wednesday (May 21). TikTok and Instagram users who commented on the sneak peeks said they didn’t expect the genre-blending combination, but anticipated having the song “on repeat.”

“Honored bro. Thank you for having me on this one,” Combs commented on Bellion’s post about the newly-debuted song on Friday morning (May 23). Bellion included snapshots of the pair together, plus the screenshot of their text exchange when Combs agreed to the collaboration. Bellion replied to the country star that he’s “blessed you came through," he wrote. "Thank you for elevating this to a place only you could take it to. You and the band went upside down.”

Combs, a father of two young sons, sings solo before Bellion jumps back in with him:

“Stressed and strung out about things that could happen/ And I could move mountains with worry I’ve done/ So I call my father and he started laughing/ He said you think it’s bad now? Wait till you have a son”
“So why love anything, anything, anything at all?/ Why love anything at all?/ If the higher I fly is the further I fall/ Then why love anything at all?”

“Guys, I’ve been such a huge Jon Bellion fan for so long. You have no idea,” Combs said in a clip shared on his Instagram story on Friday. “Me and him have been trying to get together on something for, it feels like forever now. …He was nice enough to ask me to be on this incredible song, ‘WHY,’ which is out now. You guys should go check it out. But seriously, (it was a) huge honor. (I) just wanna say a big thanks to Jon for asking me to be part of such a special song, and hope you all love it.”

Combs recently shared an update for fans and revealed he’s “doing a headline tour next year and I am actively working on new music.” The North Carolina-born singer-songwriter also teased an “Easter egg...that will one day make sense” in the video he shared last week.
