Russell Dickerson brings his signature โinfectious energy to life in a vibrant, over-the-top celebrationโ in the new music video he premiered on Wednesday (July 16).
Dickerson debuted the visual for โHappen To Me,โ the single he released earlier this year with a clever nod to Cyndi Lauperโs iconic 80s anthem, โGirls Just Wanna Have Fun.โ Daniella Mason directed the music video, which follows Dickerson as he โleads a high-spirited crowd through the streets, kicking things off with a full marching band and breakout dance moments that turn every spot into a pop-up dance floor,โ reads a press release issued to announce the premiere on Wednesday. The video also includes the now-viral TikTok choreography, and ends with a dance party in a bar with colorful Christmas lights glowing on the ceiling.
โโHappen To Meโ is all about dancing through heartbreak,โ Dickerson said in a statement when he released the song, which he wrote with Chase McGill,ย Jessie Jo Dillonย andย Chris LaCorte. โWhen we first started writing, I thought, โWhatโs a song that makes every girl want to get up and dance when it plays?โ So we kicked off the chorus with โGirls just want to have fun,โ and kept building from there.โ
โHappen To Meโ appears on Dickersonโs upcoming album, Famous Back Home. The 12-track project is due to release on August 22. Watch the new music video here:
